Football Remembers is Back this Weekend

Football Remembers was back again at Hawks FC this last weekend for the Annual Xmas truce game against Mawsley Hurricanes.

This is one of the favourite events in the clubs Calendars and played for the 4th year running between teams who take seriously the spirit of grassroots football.

This annual game it’s to celebrate the 1914 Xmas truce between the soldiers in WW1. The usual mulled wine, mince pies were out for the spectators. Its was a great afternoon with a bit of a usual tradition of inviting a few extra school friends to play for the teams.

The Annual Match started as a one off in 2014 but has continued ever since. This years tussle between The Torcida & The Hurricanes took place on Saturday 2nd December at Hawks Home Ground of Kettering Cricket Club.

With Several players having played in all the Football Remembers Matches its a great celebration of football friendships.

In what was a hard fought game with some great football it was the Hurricanes who triumphed this year and took the annual winners honour from the Torcida whio sneaked in last year.

Football Remembers 5 will be back again in 2018.

James Bambridge, Coach at Hawks said " it is always a great honour to organise this event and extra special due to the close friendships the clubs have had since they started playing in the Weetabix League 8 years ago. The Mawsley games are always played in the right spirit. We are already looking forward to Football Remembers 5. "
